is art really recession proof?
February 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment
With cutbacks at various museums, you’d think that art is being heavily affected by the recession. That notion was smashed obliterated when I read about the late Yves Saint Laurent’s multi-million dollar art auction. Not that it was a multi-million dollar auction, but rather due to this piece from Miss Gray. Personally, I think it’s pretty ugly. But “The Dragons” armchair fetched quite a bit more than it’s $2.5 to $3.8 million estimate.
The price? $28 million.
Must be nice to have $28 million in disposable income. To spend on a chair. More details from AT.

Not really related, but I love both of these prints:
Obama Inauguration Poster by Shephard Fairey:
The Fifty United States and their Mottos by Emily Wick:
Purchase Shephard’s here and Emily’s here. Oh – and for how much I rant blog about what furniture you need in your place, or electronics, you didn’t really think I wouldn’t post about what artwork you should have, did you?

keith haring’s “10 commandments”
January 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment
To start off, I love Keith Haring’s work. His playful and colorful approach to art is right up my alley – as much as I can appreciate a lot of the Impressionist works, they simply don’t do it for me. And although completed 23 years ago, the “Ten Commandments” installation will finally be shown in New York City.
Apparently, Haring interpreted the 10 commandments metaphorically rather than literally, and even putting a twist on a few. For the Commandment, “Thou shall not steal”, Haring decided instead to portray the antithesis – depicting someone stealing. According to Freshness, the exhibition ended the 28th of December but if it is coming to your area, check it out!
