pharrell x takashi = “the simple things”

June 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

A collaborative art effort between Pharrell Williams and Takashi Murakami yields a huge Mr. DOB tripping on mushrooms and eating diamond encrusted items made by Jacob & Co.  As confusing as that sounds, it’s actually the easiest way to explain “The Simple Things” exhibit at Art Basel in Switzerland.

This piece sold in less than half an hour (what recession?)

From the BBC blog.

Edit: Here’s an interview with Pharrell -

I know this dropped a long time ago, but in case you were fiending for some Murakami sporting goods, here’s your chance: !BR0J7oQBGk~$(KGrHgoH-D4EjlLle-etBJ++PmR4H!~~_1

7cc2_1 The soccer ball is on eBay for a Buy-It-Now of $589 which considering the price of some Murakami goods isn’t too bad.  And this may be your only chance to pick up this soccer ball for awhile (they don’t appear on eBay very often).

Bid here if you’re interested.

mr. murakami madness

So much news about Murakami today!  First, I thought the post was going to be about his feature in the newest issue of Casa Brutus, which features his exhibition in Bilbao.  And the issue is including a plate that Murakami designed as well (just like those placemats he did for LV).  I’m going to attempt to track down a copy but it’s probably going to be a challenge.

Here’s a detail of the plate -

And then I read about Mr. Murakami’s upcoming collaboration with Louis Vuitton.  While the pieces from “Multicolore Spring Pallete” won’t release until April 28th, a video teaser has surfaced courtesy of SlamXHype:

And finally, one of Takashi’s protege is coming out with a clothing collaboration of his own with Lucien Pellat-Finet.  Mr. (who has also collaborated with Supreme on a set of desks) has a similiar superflat style, albeit with an almost Speed Racer twist?  See for yourself.

I wouldn’t mind picking up some of Mr.’s bedding with a few Murakami pillows.

supreme x damien hirst

Damien Hirst has almost become a household name, from his gratuitous use of skulls (“For the Love of God”), to his famous  “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living” (the shark in formaldehyde).  What’s next for this celebrated artist?

Following in suit of Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Richard Prince and Christopher Wool, Damien Hirst is collaborating with Supreme on a total of 6 skateboard decks.  3 of the decks will be with a spin art theme and the other 3 will be pharmacy themed.

Personally, I’m not really a fan.  At all.  The yellow pharmacy deck is alright but the spin art ones are terrible.  Sad thing is that collectors will probably pay $600 each in a year or two.  Forget about mutual funds, I’m buying a few of these.  From High Snobiety.
